3 games in IBP-RRD cagefest on June 21

Three games are scheduled in the 2008 Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Basketball Tournament on Saturday, June 21, at the Hall of Justice covered court.

IBP White, known as the Chinos, takes on IBP Black Coca-Cola at 1:20 p.m., followed by COMELEC Region XI against the DCPO Officers Group at 2:45 p.m. while IBP Yellow faces the Bong Go-led City Government of Davao in the main game at 4 p.m.

The tournament is presented by Mayor Duterte and sanctioned by the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas XI under regional director Regino "Boy" Cua.

Duterte Agilas-Goldstar Hardware play Montana Pawnshop in finals

The Duterte Agilas-Goldstar Hardware will play the Montana Pawnbrokers in the finals of the 2008 Mayor RRD-Araw ng Dabaw Basketball Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Davao City Recreation Center.

Game time is at 5:30 p.m.

M.Lhuillier Kwarta Padala of Cebu City meets the Zamboanga Latinos for third place at 4 p.m.

The awarding ceremony will immediately follow after the finals to be led by Vice Mayor Sara Duterte, City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go and BAP-Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas Regional Director Regino "Boy" Cua.

RMC upsets Ateneo, 102-96, rules EDSA Anniversary Basketball Tournament

Rizal Memorial Colleges upset the Ateneo de Davao University, 102-96 to win the 2008 EDSA Anniversary Basketball Tournament, Saturday night, at the Davao City Recreation Center.

Hernan Dejito topscored for RMC with 32 points while Richard Madelo led the losing side with the same output.

PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez awarded the prizes to the winners.

Agro-Industrial Foundation College placed third while Holy Cross of Davao College landed fourth in the two-night tournament also supported by Davao City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go and BAP-SBP XI Regional Director Regino "Boy" Cua.

EDSA Anniversary Basketball Games on Saturday

EDSA Anniversary basketball games are scheduled Saturday afternoon starting at 5 p.m. at the Davao City Recreation Center.

Featured teams are the Rizal Memorial Colleges Bulldogs, Agro-Industrial Foundation College Sailors, Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders and the Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights.

The event is sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission in coordination with the Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office and the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas XI.

PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez will be on hand to grace the event along with Davao City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go and BAP-SBP Regional Director Regino “Boy” Cua.

City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go bailed out the City Mayor's Office of trouble when he sparked in the fourth quarter to avenge their Game 1 loss and level the series to 1-1 against the Police Regional Office XI, 98-79 in the 5th RRD-AFP/PNP Basketball Finals, Thursday night, at the Davao City Recreation Center.



Go, who is also Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's Executive Assistant, drained four three-point shots of his 16 total points in the fourth quarter alone to lead CMO with 31 baskets.



Vicente Reyes scored only 11 and Joswe Torregosa, who has been leading the scoring chores for his squad, was limited to only 10 points. PRO XI had a well distributed scoring machine but their veterans failed to put up the needed scores to overtake CMO.



Roy Bangkas helped Go with 14 points and 10 points each from Marvin Mondigo and Dindo Pastor.



PRO XI worked harder in the fourth quarter but time was not on their side that paved the way for CMO to equalize the series and force a rubbermatch.



Game 3 of the tournament, presented by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and sanctioned by BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Regional Director Regino "Boy" Cua, is on Saturday, December 22, 6:30 p.m. after the three-point shooting contest at 5:30 p.m.

Talomo Precinct wins DCPO title

Talomo Precinct bounced back in the final half to catch up with the Traffic Group and win the 2007 DCPO Inter-Unit Basketball finals, 60-54, Sunday, at the Davao City Police Office covered court.

Behind by five points, the Talomo Precint of Supt.Matthew Baccay slowly erased the lead by limiting the Traffic Group to only seven points in the final quarter.

City Mobile Group trounced Sasa Precinct, 78-59 to settle for third place in the tournament presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with the support of City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go and sanctioned by BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas XI Director Regino “Boy” Cua.

DJA vs. DCC in Lipovitan cage finals

Davao Jones Academy and Davao Central College will clash for the 1st Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup Inter-High School Basketball Tournament on December 15, 3 p.m., at the Lifestream International College along Mamay Road.

Davao Jones, behind the 14 points of Kim Asuleo, defeated Holy Cross of Bunawan, 61-43 to move to the finals against DCC, 78-34 winner of Davao Central High School.

Holy Cross and Davao Central High will vie for the third spot at 1:30 p.m.

The champion will win P5,000, trophy and certificates, P3,000, a trophy and certificates for the first runner-up, P1,500, trophy and certificates for the second runner-up, trophy for the third runner-up and the most valuable player will receive a medal and certificate.

BFP, PRO XI bag No.1 spots in 5th RRD-AFP/PNP elims

The Bureau of Fire Protection and Police Regional Office XI bagged the No.1 spots in separate brackets after the elimination round of the 5th RRD-AFP/PNP Basketball Tournament at the Davao City Recreation Center.

BFP finished with a 4-1 win-loss slate in bracket B while the PRO XI tallied five victories and one setback in bracket A.

City Mayor's Office clinched the No.2 spot after besting the 28th Infantry Battalion, 103-81 on Sunday night. City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go canned in six three-pointers and added another jumper to lead CMO with 20 points while Dennis Barrete topscored for 28th IB with 36 baskets.

Davao City Police Office followed BFP at No.2, Regional Mobile Group at No.3 and 22nd Company at No.4.

BJMP seals 2nd win in RRD-AFP/PNP tourney

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology sealed its second win by beating the 28th Infantry Battalion, 82-79 in the 5th RRD-AFP/PNP Basketball Tournament, Saturday, at the Davao City Recreation Center.

BJMP improved to two victories against four defeats while the 28th IB absorbed its second loss against three wins.

The 22nd Company, on the other hand, also chalked in its second win in five games at the expense of Task Force Davao, 106-76. TFD remained winless with four setbacks in the tournament presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with the support of City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go and sanctioned by BAP-Samahang Basketbolista ng Pilipinas XI Director Regino "Boy" Cua.

Three games are scheduled on Sunday, December 9, featuring the Police Regional Office XI gunning for its sixth straight victory when it faces the 10th Infantry Division, a 2-2 win-loss holder at 2 p.m.

Regional Mobile Group, sporting a 2-1 win-loss slate, battles TFD at 3:30 p.m. while the City Mayor's Office, which tallied four wins only to lose to PRO XI by one point on December 1 via 85-86, will try to bounce back when it plays the 28th IB in the main game at 5 p.m.

San Pedro Precinct beats Buhangin, 49-44

San Pedro Precinct beat the Buhangin Precinct, 49-44 for its first win in the 2007 DCPO Inter-Unit Basketball Tournament on Tuesday afternoon, November 27, at the Davao City Police Office covered court.
Buhangin dropped to its second straight loss.
In the other games, the City Mobile Group trounced the DCPO Headquarters (0-1), 48-42 for its first victory while Sta.Ana Precinct also posted its first win at the expense of Bunawan/Paquibato Precincts (1-2), 55-47.
Games will resume on Thursday, according to City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go.

Ateneo enters GS Cup finals after nine years

The Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights finally entered the Gaisano South Cup College Division 1 finals after nine long years.

Inspired by the presence of ADDU President Fr. Antonio Samson, S.J., the Blue Knights stopped the Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders, via a nail biting 80-75 win on Saturday night at the jampacked Gaisano South Sky gym.

Coach Cholo Elegino, who for a long time learned the rudiments of coaching from former Ateneo head coach William “Butch” Ramirez, said they are ready for the finals on December 9.

The Jose Maria College Kings and the Agro-Industrial Foundation College Sailors square off for the other final’s slot on November 29.

“Both teams are tough contenders. But we have worked so hard this year. I guarantee that we will be ready. We did not wait for nine years and become a bride’s maid,” said Elegino, who in September steered the Blue Knights to victory in the 2007 Mabutas Cup finals against the Crusaders.

Miguel Solitario powered the Blue Knights to victory with 25 points, 13 rebounds and two assists in the semifinal round of the tournament sponsored by Rexona, Milo, Axe Sunsport and sanctioned by BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Regional Director Regino “Boy” Cua.

Kirk James Blanco led the Crusaders with 20 points.

In Division 2, the MATS Navigators defeated Brokenshire College, 84-81 and will meet the winner between AMA Computer College and Holy Child College in the finals.

Assumption College of Davao girls forced a rubber match after trouncing Stella Maris Academy, 75-62. They will meet on December 1 at 1:30 p.m.

Five games are scheduled in the resumption of the 2007 DCPO Inter-Unit Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, November 27, at the Davao City Police Office covered court.

Sta.Ana Precinct takes on Bunawan/Paquibato Precincts at 9:30 a.m. followed by DCPO Headquarters against City Mobile Group at 11 a.m.

San Pedro Station battles Buhangin Precint at 1 p.m., Talomo Precinct versus Marilog Precinct at 2 p.m. and Toril/Tugbok Precincts against Traffic Group at 4 p.m.

Beatitudes Christian Fellowship and Maa Alliance Church square off on Sunday in Game 1 of the Best-of-Three final series of the Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference on Sunday, November 24, at the Davao City Recreation Center.
