CMO drubs PRO-XI 95-72, sweeps elims
The league-leading Mayor’s Men ran smack into a tough Police Regional Office-XI quintet that fought tooth and nail to the end but came out with enough ammunition to eke out a 95-72 win for its eighth win and a sweep of the elimination phase in Group A of the Mayor Rody and Inday Sara 7th PNP-AFP Basketball Tournament over the weekend at the Almendras Gym.
Streak-shooting Christopher “Bong” Go was shadowed throughout the match but he was able to burry some from his favorite area beyond the arc including one from near the halfcourt mark before the end of the first half and a rare four-point play in the third canto for a game-high 28 points.
“This is the toughest game we played. They were very physical in defense,” said Go after the match.
Former pro Dindo Pastor added 19 markers including five triples while daredevil Roy Bangkas chipped in 13.
The Mayor’s Men erected a huge lead that ballooned to 38-17 midway in the second canto with Go and the Triple B connection of Bangkas, Dioven Braga and Ariel Bonleon conspiring with slotman Cadel Mosqueda and Pastor.
Archie Zozobrado led the PRO-XI side with 23 as they dropped to 3-1.
In other games, RMG continued its winning ways with a masterful 116-91 massacre of Philippine Coast Guard for their fourth straight win in as many games in Group B. PCG dropped to 0-4. Special Action Force also kept abreast with a 4-0 card after blasting East Mincom (0-4) 116-98. (NJB-City Sports)

CMO wins Ladislawa Cup title in dramatic fashion
The City Mayor's Office had no problem working on pressure-pack double overtime to win the 2009 Ladislawa Cup - 34 years and old below - title.
The Mayor's men showed excellent composure down the stretch to beat Al-Iskandar, 96 - 92 and claim the title in a dramatic fashion in Game 2 of their best of three title showdown on Friday night at the Ladislawa Garden Village Gym.
Dindo Pastor, Roy Bangkas and Jason Tan joined hands to help CMO cop the title over Al-Iskandar in one of the best title games in recent memory in Davao City.
Pastor was the biggest factor in the grueling match as the former PBA and defunct MBA player took charge, carrying the loads for CMO, when the game is on the line and the chips are down.
The former Sta. Lucia Realtor (PBA) and Pasig Pirate (MBA) dished out a superb pass to Bangkas and drilled in two crucial free throws to take the lead for good, 92 - 91 with seconds more to play.
Bangkas' defense-less under goal stab off a Pastor pass put it, 90 - 91.
Pastor filled in the shoes of Christopher "Bong" Go, who was manned by former pro Arvin Bonleon all game long and completely took over when Tan fouled out midway of the second over time.
The sweet-shooting executive assistant of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte came out waxing hot, firing all his 11 points in the first canto that gave CMO, 25 - 17 after the first ten minutes of play.
Tan and Bangkas chipped in 23 points for CMO which blew out the chance to settle the game in regulation due to crucial turnover with 7 seconds left.
Ahead by 3, 74 - 71, CMO turned the ball over that gave Al-Iskandar the final play where Bonleon handed off to Ferndinand Yap at the left corner three point line and the prize wingman took the shot.
It hit nothing but the net that sent the game into the first overtime at 74 -all.
Yap continue to play well for Al-Iskandar along with Bonleon in the extra minutes, hitting one three pointer to another that made the game close up to the final buzzer.
Bonleon canned in 29 points, including a three pointer that tied the count at 83-all after the lefty Tan made a three point play that gave CMO a taste of 83 - 80 edge.
After Bonleon's triple, both teams had a hard time to execute their plays and convert that pave the way for the second overtime.
Yap had 20 points while Oca Gonzaga drilled in 15 points for Al-Iskandar.

CMO takes Game 1 in Ladislawa Cup
The City Mayor's Office walloped Al-Iskandar, 98 - 76 in Game 1 of their 2009 Ladislawa Cup - 34 years old and below division - best of three title showdown, Tuesday night, at the Ladislawa Garden Village Gym.
Christopher "Bong" Go scored 22 of his total 27 points in the pivotal final half as he proved dominant enough to power CMO within a win of the league title.

drilled seven triples, including one that came from close to the half court line that settled the final count.
Skipper Ryan Alquizar and Roy Bangkas helped Go in the offensive end while Dindo Pastor, Marvin Mondigo and Boyet Brigoli did their share in defense that gave Al-Iskandar had a hard time to get its game going in the second half.
Alquizar and Bangkas chipped in 14 markers apiece for CMO which pulled away in the third canto for a commanding 74 - 57 lead entering the final quarter.
Veteran playmaker Arvin Bonleon had 15 points for Al-Iskandar which was trailing all throughout
A Go baseline triple midway of the final period marked the biggest decifit of the ballgame at 22, 88 - 66.
CMO will try to end the series on Friday's Game 2 at 7:30 p.m.
It was a see-saw battle in the opening canto as both teams managed to trade baskets.
Behind Alquizar's 9 points in the second quarter CMO took a 45 - 35 lead at the half.
In 35 years old and above division, Goldstar Hardware downed Sanman selection, 97 - 59 in Game 1 of their own best of three title series.
Goldstar dribblers coached by Jigger Saniel played inspired basketball by the presence of their big boss Winston Ho who watched the game at the back of the bench.
Go fires 39 lift CMO past Air Force
The City Mayor's Office drew first blood in the Inday Sara AFP-PNP - 24th Kadayawan Invitational Cup by besting Philippine Air Force, 109 - 79 behind the superb showing of Christopher "Bong" Go on Saturday.
The sweet-shooting executive assistant of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who wowed the crowd at the Barangay 5-A Bankerohan Gym with his three point shooting prowess, scattered 39 points to put CMO in the winning column.
Go had 15 points after the first twenty minutes of play and scored the last 24 from behind the arc, hitting from all angles, in the final half.
Roy Bangkas and Dioven Braga chipped in 11 points respectively for CMO which came out strong early taking 29 - 12 after the first canto and never looked back.
Rygian Delgra paced the Airmen with 25 markers.
In the second game, Regional Headquarters needed an extra five minutes to dispose Bureua of Jail Management and Penology, 114 - 112 in overtime.
Robinson Palomares topscored for RHQ with 36 points.
Acting Mayor Sara Duterte opened the tournament to the delight of the players and team officials from ten participating teams from the various units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police.
In her short speech, she urged the players to play with highest level of sportsmanship and "enjoy the games".
The tournament is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Legislators extend series, win Game 4
Execs beat Liga in Friendship Game, 112-99
The City Hall Executives beat Liga ng Barangay, 112-99 in a friendship game last Sunday at the Davao City Recreation Center.
Christopher "Bong" Go pumped in 31 points to led the charge for the Executives who were leading majority of the game.
The sweet-shooting executive assistant of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte hit short jumpers one after the other in the early going before waxing hot in the second half, drilling in three pointers from various angles.
Lawyer Joseph Felizarta and Dr. Allan Galvez chipped in 24 and 12 points respectively for the Executives who pulled away in the second quarter.
The barangay leaders bounced back in the third canto behind Brgy. Panacan chairman Arnulfo Apostol and Brgy. San Antonio chief Roger Galido.
But Executives made a final push in the pay off period to seal the victory.
Apostol poured in 18 points while Galido had 12.

Execs take huge 3 - 0 lead vs. Legislators
City Hall Executives broke away in the third period to beat the Legislators, 112 - 98 and take a commanding 3 - 0 series lead in the 19th Executive-Legislative 2009 season best of seven series Friday night at the Davao City Recreation Center.
Christopher "Bong" Go, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's executive assistant, hit three straight triple from different angles midway of the third canto that sparked a 13 - 0 run en route to a come from behind Game 3 victory.
The sweet-shooting Go, who was out of target in the first half, found his rhythm in the final half, canning 28 of his game total 37 points.
The Executives were trailing most of the first twenty minutes of play before Go, who was held scoreless in the opening period, redeemed himself and found his shooting touch for a barrage of three-pointers.
Roy Bangkas chipped in 19 points for the Executives.
The Legislative played well but they had a hard time to contain the Executives in both ends of the floor.
Jilliard de Guzman led the Legislators with 28 points.
Loloy Casado had 22 markers for Legislative which will try to bounce back in Game 4 and extend the series.
The Legislators took a 56 - 54b lead at the half.
But the Executives went into scoring spree in the third period to take a 86 - 68 edge going to the final canto.

Go, Execs beat Lawyers in tune up game
The sweet-shooting Go, who was hitting three-pointers from all angles, scattered 32 big points, accounting six shots from behind the arc.
Go’s third triple that capped a 10-0 run midway of the second period gave the Executives their first lead of the ballgame and never looked back for the victory.
Ryan Escuredo chipped in 20 points for the Executives who was thrilling since the opening buzzer until Go hit a three-pointer at the top for a 40 – 39 advantage at the 3:18 mark of the second canto.
The Executives went to scoring spree in the third quarter that ballooned the gap to 22, 86 – 64 going to the pay off period.
But the lawyers staged a huge come back in the final canto behind heroics of Adrian Paguican who scored 15 of his total 24 to bring back the game on the line.
Paguican’s triple put the count at 103- 104 with 2:34 left.
Ryan Alquizar, who had 14 points, made a three point play on the ensuing possession to back up the lead to 4, 107 – 103 and the Executives pulled away for good.
Dante Baguio scored 20 markers for IBP which was up 29 – 17 after the opening period, credited to the excellent quarterbacking of Emilio “Nonot” Dayanghirang.
The Executives had 47 – 43 lead at halftime.

Executives take 2 - 0 lead over Legislative
Christopher" Bong" Go, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's executive assistant, scored 10 of his total 30 points in the pivotal second period where the Executives staged a mighty run for good.
Highlighted with sweet-shooting Go's two triples, the Executives outscored the Legislators, 32 - 19 to take a 57 - 47 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Ryan Alquizar, Eugene Labor and Roy Bangkas chipped in 19, 14 and 13 markers respectively to help the Executives move closer to another title.
The Legislative came out hot early taking a 28 - 25 advantage after the opening canto.
But the Exectuives strong showing in both ends of the floor took the balance and rhytm out of the Councilors Diosdado Mahipus and Dante Apostol led Legislative.
Vincent Plarisan scored 27 points for the Legislative which failed to recover after being downed and absorbed their second straight loss in the series.
Go continued to sizzle hot in the third period, adding 15 points on his remarkable output in the first twenty minutes of play.

50 patients attend RRD basketball clinic at Rehab Center
Davao City’s drug rehabilitation center patients received a different kind of treatment for two days when the Mayor RRD basketball clinicians paid them a visit, recently, at Bago Oshiro.
Ex-PBA and MBA player Cadel Mosqueda and the rest of basketball clinicians taught them the proper exercises, ball handling, passing and dribbling drills.
Around 50 patients took part in the activity that gave them lessons about proper positioning during actual games for them to truly enjoy playing the sport because of the skills they have acquired.
Mosqueda personally led the conduct of the sessions with the assistance of the Sports Development Division staff.
The RRD basketball clinics have been conducted in the barangays for years and benefitted thousands of boys and girls.
Christopher “Bong” Go, Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte’s executive assistant, hopes that the patients will continue to work on their exercises and drills to help them in their recovery process.
Executives annex 17th Season title
Go, Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte’s executive assistant, kept on sniping from the outside and teammates Ariel Bonleon and Melchor Gadiano stepped up with the rest of the Executive squad to trounce the Legislators led by Councilor Diosdado Mahipus, 105-100.
Mahipus and his teammates started to go strong to the basket in the final quarter but the Executives re-organized well to disappoint again their rivals.
The Executives protected a small lead, 29-27 in the first quarter but played consistently in the second and third quarters to keep the Legislators at bay.

Free RRD Basketball Clinic goes to far-flung Brgy.Lumiad
Former Philippine Basketball Association and Metropolitan Basketball Association player Cadel Mosqueda and veteran clinician Alberto Malinao will teach young boys and girls the basics of shooting, dribbling and passing for the next two days including simple plays and drills.
Aside from the basics, the team from the Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office will also inculcate upon the participants the importance of engaging in sports activities at an early age and how this will develop strong bodies and minds.
The clinics have benefitted hundreds of boys and girls in Davao City as a component of the Duterte Basketball League which is also ongoing.
Christopher "Bong" Go, the mayor's executive assistant, said that the clinics are one way of keeping the youth into sports and encourage them to stay in sports activities.

The City Mayor’s Office remained undefeated in four games and claimed its latest victim, IBP 40’s, 126-119 in the 2008 Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Vice Mayor Sara Duterte Basketball Tournament, Saturday, at the Hall of Justice covered court.
Christopher “Bong” Go drilled in 35 points as CMO cruised to its fourth straight victory and handed IBP 40’s its fifth setback.
IBP improved to four wins against one setback after trouncing Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (3-2), 98-86 while Regional and Municipal Trial Courts leveled its count to 3-3 after outgunning the Ateneo Law School, 81-73. EA Sports Management lost to IBP Panabo on a no-show.
Games will resume on Saturday.

Executives finish off Legislators, 100-97
City sports coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go started with a big bang by drilling in five three-point shots in the first quarter, sending another message that the Executives were out to capture another season title.
The Legislators could not find the needed points and went behind by 10 points in the first canto only to spark in the fourth quarter as they outscored their rivals, 38-20.
The Executives, however, re-grouped just in time to keep the Legislators from trailing and escaped with just a three-point victory.

The Executives exploited a disorganized Legislative squad to fuel a 62-35 advantage at the end of the first half.
The Legislators took their turn in the final half by outgunning the Executives, 27-13 in the third quarter but their rivals kept them at bay as Ariel Bonleon and Roy Bangkas combined for 15 points in the final canto.
City sports coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go led the Executives with 21 points and Bonleon and Bangkas helped with 18 points, apiece as the Executives posted a comfortable 3-0 lead in the series.

Culaste leads Liga past Executives, 102-96
Culaste sparked in the second half by scoring 17 of his 24 points while Arnold Apostol helped with 18 points .
The barangay leaders established an eight-point lead at the end of the first half and slowed down in the last canto as city sports coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go canned in 18 of his 40 points in the final stretch.
But Culaste and the rest of the leaders defended their lead to score the equalizer and Go, Gerard Acojedo, who contributed 18 points, city general services officer Marvin “Oying” Melodias, who pumped in 12 baskets, and lawyer Joey Felizarta, who drilled in 10 points, could no longer catch up with the Liga cagers as time expired.
