Holcim, Mahipus Law enter semi-finals



HOLCIM and Mahipus Law Office beat separate rivals to both enter in the semifinal round of the Inter-Company Division of the first Orange Generation Cup basketball tournament last Sunday at the Brokenshire gym.

Holcim took an early lead, 24-16 in the first quarter and never looked back to oust www.express, 78-70 and posted its second win against one loss in Bracket B. Holcim will join Yuchengco Group of Companies (2-1) in the crossover semifinals.

Edmar Aynaga led Holcim with 19 points, 12 in the final half that stopped the rally of the Forwarders. Nathaniel Maputol added 15 points, 10 made in the first half which gave Holcim a 42-32 lead. Carlos Fortuosa and Kenneth Espinosa contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Arnel Llovedo topscored for the Forwarders with 20 points, 17 in the final half, followed by Merwin Ramos and Ianfranco Phala with 15 and 10, respectively.

Mahipus, on the other hand, defeated Dasia, 90-70 to also improve its record to 2-1 in Bracket A and join in the semifinals Anflocor (3-0), which won by a default over Monark-CAT (0-3).

Mahipus ignited a 26-10 run in the first quarter as topscorer Edwil Bohone made nine of his 25 points, while Geliar de Guzman, Manny Montalban and Edgar Canilao combined for 21 points.

In the third quarter, Bohone added nine more markers while Ronnel Bantilan shot all of his 11 points as Mahipus enjoyed their biggest lead by 23 points, 70-50. However, both were silent in the next canto but Montalban took over to score 10 of his 19 points in the final canto.

Hubert Cesar Jr. led Dasia’s losing cause with 25 points followed by Jessie Montes with 20.

In the senior’s division, Philippine Women’s College routed University of Southeastern Philippines, 83-57 for its second win in four games. USEP remained winless and bowed out in contention with four straight loses already. Only four will qualify in the next round.

High-flying Miguel Angelo Pacheco starred for PWC with 23 points including four slam dunks and three triples. Jayriff James Luzero added 18 followed by Osmer Chan and Kirk Bagohin with 12 and 11.

Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School defeated Immanuel School of Davao, 69-59 to also post its 2-1 win-loss card in Bracket B of the Cadet Division. ISD dropped with a 1-3 card.

Ronnel Ferrer led DRANHS with 16 points followed by Al-Rashid Indin with 14.

The elimination round will end on Saturday and will immediately be followed by the semifinals this Sunday according to tournament director Rael Diaz of the organizing Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management Inc.
