Cagayan de Oro defeats Gen.Santos, 91-86

Cagayan de Oro College of Cagayan de Oro City defeated Holy Trinity College of Gen.Santos City, 91-86 on Tuesday night even as host Ateneo de Davao University of Davao City bested Southern City College of Zamboanga City, 86-58 in the 2009 Philippine Collegiate Champion’s League/Duterte Basketball League Mindanao Finals at the Gaisano South Sky gym.
Pointguard Elvis Pahilan, who led his teammates in the fourth quarter by scoring seven of his 14 points, bailed out Cagayan de Oro out of trouble in the final quarter by sinking a jumper, then sealed the victory with two free throws at the time Holy Trinity College threatened.
Clyde Marc Caracol led the Phinma-backed Cagayan de Oro five with 20 baskets while Eric Ram Lamanilao topscored for Gen.Santos with 21 points.
In the first game, Richard Madelo fired 20 points for Ateneo while Jaybee Porlares canned in 22 baskets for Zamboanga.
Madelo will have his hands full again when they play Gen.Santos at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon after the Cagayan de Oro vs. Zamboanga curtain-raiser at 2 p.m.
The tournament is organized by the PCCL under tournament chairman Joe Lipa and sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas regional director Regino “Boy” Cua with the support of Smart, PLDT, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Mayor Sara Duterte.
