RMG, CMO nail second win in AFP-PNP caging

Defending champion Regional Mobile Group and chief rival City Mayor's Office demolished their respective foes on Saturday for their second win in as many outings to stay on top in the Mayor Rody and Inday Sara 7th PNP-AFP basketball tournament at the Almendras Gym.

RMG turned back BJMP 104-83 to keep track with the Mayor's Men who were again devastating in blasting the visiting Compostela Valley Police Provincial Office 113-91.

CMO relied on a balanced offensive anchored on the sweet-shooting guard Bong Go and the emerging “Triple B” troika of Roy Bangkas, Ariel Bonleon and big man Dioven Braga. Already a marked man in every outing for his torrid shooting, Go has developed a new arsenal—a running tear drop off a fake from his favorite spot beyond the arc, or pass off to an open teammate. This was evident in their first two games as Go has scored a little less than usual, 25 against ComVal, but his teammates were left open a lot often. The Triple B connection of Bangkas, Bonleon and Braga combined for 34.

Ike Estampa led ComVal with 17 markers in a losing effort.

In other games, Philippine Air Force (1-0) dealt Coast Guard is second straight setback 83-77, PNP-National Support Unit (1-0) defeated Philippine Navy (0-1) 73-69, and Bureau of Fire (1-1) upset DCPO 90-86 (1-1).

The seventh edition of the tournament is supported by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte. The champion of the tourney will receive P300,000, first runner-up P200,000, third runner-up 100,000 and fourth runner-up P50,000. (NJB-City Sports)
