CMO drubs PRO-XI 95-72, sweeps elims

City Mayor’s Office completed a sweep of the eliminations but this last win did not come all too easy.

The league-leading Mayor’s Men ran smack into a tough Police Regional Office-XI quintet that fought tooth and nail to the end but came out with enough ammunition to eke out a 95-72 win for its eighth win and a sweep of the elimination phase in Group A of the Mayor Rody and Inday Sara 7th PNP-AFP Basketball Tournament over the weekend at the Almendras Gym.

Streak-shooting Christopher “Bong” Go was shadowed throughout the match but he was able to burry some from his favorite area beyond the arc including one from near the halfcourt mark before the end of the first half and a rare four-point play in the third canto for a game-high 28 points.

“This is the toughest game we played. They were very physical in defense,” said Go after the match.

Former pro Dindo Pastor added 19 markers including five triples while daredevil Roy Bangkas chipped in 13.

The Mayor’s Men erected a huge lead that ballooned to 38-17 midway in the second canto with Go and the Triple B connection of Bangkas, Dioven Braga and Ariel Bonleon conspiring with slotman Cadel Mosqueda and Pastor.

Archie Zozobrado led the PRO-XI side with 23 as they dropped to 3-1.

In other games, RMG continued its winning ways with a masterful 116-91 massacre of Philippine Coast Guard for their fourth straight win in as many games in Group B. PCG dropped to 0-4. Special Action Force also kept abreast with a 4-0 card after blasting East Mincom (0-4) 116-98. (NJB-City Sports)
