Talk N’ Text reserved its best 48 minutes for Game 6, in the process wrapping up the 2010-11 PBA
Philippine Cup championship playoffs with 95-82 victory against San Miguel Beer Friday at the
araneta Coliseum.

Ryan Reyes collected a team-high 17 points and had a sensational first half and Jimmy Alapag had 15
points and 10 assists for the Tropang Texters, who completely dominated the game to end two-seasons
of frustrating campaign.

“We were set to play good, hard 96 minutes. We got the first 48 minutes last Wednesday. I told
the guys that would go for naught if we don’t play tonight. We have to come out with our best
effort. I thought we were able to achieve that,” TnT coach Chot Reyes, who won his sixth career
championship and second with Tropang Texters.

It was the third all-Filipino title for the TnT, which squandered a 2-0 lead against Barangay
Ginebra in their best-of-five quarterfinals in the same conference last season then blew a 3-2 lead
against Alaska in the best-of-seven semi-finals in the succeeding Fiesta Conference.

“Last year was the worst loss of my career,” said Alapag, named co-Finals MVP with Jayson
Castro, his backup guard.

Ali Peek scored 15 points, Harvey Carey had 13, Ranidel de Ocampo contributed 12 and Kelly
Williamas 10 for the Tropang Texters, who closed the series 4-2.

The Beermen, who struggled on both ends in the first half, threatened to turn the game around in
the third quarter but the Tropang Texters quickly quashed the challenge with 12 unanswered points
and coasted the rest of the way. Peek and Williams had four point each in that decisive run.

“[San Miguel] is a great team, we respected them. But even though they came back, I felt they
wasted too much effort trying to catch up with us,” Reyes said.

TnT kept running all night long and never allowed the Beermen to slow down the pace by maintaining
their transition game.

“We really want to put pressure on them and not allow the game to be close. They [SMB] haven’t
lost a close game yet,”

His latest success was a bit memorable for Reyes. His second championship with the TnT made him the
league’s first coach to win two championships with three different teams.

“Yeah, this is pretty special,” Reyes said of his latest success. “ But all it means is that
I get fired so I had to go from team to another.”

Jay Washington, who considered this series personal, led all scorers with 29 points on 9 of 19
shooting but he was the only consistent player among the Beermen.

Dondon Hontiveros scored 11 points and Arwind Santos and Danny Ildefonso added 10 apiece but
collected most of their points in the fourth when the result was already beyond doubt. (DBC)
