Metro Manila teams register lopsided victories, Powerade Batang Bacolod blasts Powerade Batang Davao

Metro Manila teams Batang Talk N’ Text-Quezon City and Batang B-Meg Derby Ace-Caloocan registered lopsided victories Tuesday at the start of the 2010 Powerade Batang PBA Pilipinas Championship at the old San Juan Gym.

Jolo Mendoza scored 35 points and John Vincent Gallego had 25 as defending champion Batang TnT-Quezon City dumped Powerade Batang Baguio, 103-19, in Group A.

In almost similar fashion, Batang Derby Ace-Caloocan pounced on Powerade Batang Zamboanga, 73-36, in Group B behind the exploits of Aljun Melecio and Patrick Cagara, who had 17 points apiece.

Both games were no contest. The teams from Baguio and Zamboanga showed a big fighting heart but were overmatched and outplayed by their seasoned and experienced rivals from Metro Manila.

Michael Mendoza was the top scorer for Powerade Batang Baguio with six points while Vince Louie Oga scored eight points to show the way for Powerade Batang Zamboanga, which had four players standing 5-foot-4 and above but visibly lacked the experience.

TnT-QC coach Mark Herrera said he is expecting a tough challenge Wednesday when his troops takes on Powerade Batang Bacolod at 11 a.m. at the Cuneta Astrodome.

“Malalaki hindi pwedeng magsona. Kailangan tiyagain,” said Herrera of their next opponent.

In the other games, Powerade Batang Bacolod blasted Powerade Batang Davao, 69-44 in Group A while Powerade Batang Cebu overpowered Powerade Batang Batangas, 65-42 in Group B.
