Baguio Victory turns back Iloilo Mang Inasals, 85-80

BATANGAS, July 13 – Ronnie Zagala unloaded 22 points and Roscer Benjamin Mangahas added 21 as the Baguio Victory turned back the Iloilo Mang Inasals, 85-80, Sunday to settle for third place in Week 4 of the Liga Pilipinas Tour elimination phase here.

The Victory lost a nine-point first quarter lead, but came together for a spirited run in the second half, weathering a late surge by the Mang Inasals to claim three points.

Baguio led, 81-72, going to the last two minutes, looking headed for a coasting win after a tough middle-two quarters.

But just when the Mang Inasals were being written off, they rallied furiously behind Chito Jaime, who finished with 24 points, to within 83-80 with 15 seconds left.

The Highlanders were not to be denied, though, hanging on from the free throw line with Jason Tiongson and Mangahas hitting a charity shot each.

Ongoing as of press time was the final game between the Lipa Barakos and the Tagaytay-Cavite Heroes.

Over in Zamboanga, the Ilocos Bravehearts salvaged third by beating the host Amores, 94-85, in overtime.

Ronnie Basilides scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, while Marlon Kalaw and Eder Saldua each had four points in the extra period.

Ilocos Sur went 39-of-79 from the field to collect five additional Liga points/
