Camella Communities suffer 1-point loss to DDT
Camella Communities suffered a heart-breaking one-point loss to DDT Konstract, 81-82 in the Safecon Industries Basketball Invitational, Friday, at the Davao Christian High School gym.
Brothers T.Quibo and G.Quibo combined for 53 points but their efforts were not enough to stop DDT as they dropped to their third setback in four games.
The win by DDT cagers gave them the No.1 spot going to the next round that starts on November 22.
Camella Communities defeated David M. Consunji Construction, 73-65 for its lone victory but its key players could no longer find the winning formula in the other games.
The tournament, sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas regional director Regino "Boy" Cua, has attracted HR Construction, JNCAS Builders, David M.Consunji Inc. Construction and MGS Construction to the event that runs until December 7.
Tournament coordinator Rael Diaz said that the tournament is one way of promoting camaraderie among members of the construction industry with Safecon Industries officials taking up the initiative this year.

Ateneo cagers gain valuable experience after UniGames campaign
Ateneo cagers gain valuable experience after UniGames campaign
Ateneo de Davao University failed to advance to the quarterfinals but gained a lot of valuable experience in the recently-concluded 2010 Philippine Sports Commission-National University Games in Dumaguete City.
Blue Knights coach Pocholo Elegino said belonging to a tough bracket with Adamson University, West Negros University, Rizal Technological University and Asian College of Science and Technology was not an easy job.
RTU sealed their fate with 20-point setback last October 27 after losing first to Adamson, 47-88 then to WNU, 72-82. Ateneo won over ACST, 76-68 to sport a 1- 3 win-loss record in the week-long UniGames campaign this year.
"We were simply overpowered by a big line-up," he said.
But playing against the taller and bigger players gave them the needed exposure as they go back campaigning in Davao leagues like the annual Gaisano Cup, Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) and Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (DACS) leagues.
"Unfortunately, my key players were injured too but we played very hard and did not just give up," said Elegino.
The lessons they learned in the prestigious UniGames, however, are soon to be of good use when they resume playing in Davao City, he added.
